Oh Sheet!

I love clean sheets, don't you?
In fact, if money was no object and I could pick one frivolous thing to do it would be fresh, clean sheets every day!

I have a new obsession with sheets...vintage and retro sheets.

I bought four great sets from a friend's yard sale. I have found oddballs at thrift stores and various yard sales.

don't worry, I immediately wash them...the whole bedbug thing is sort of freaking me out!

How awesome are these all stacked up together?

The colors!

The pretty florals

The wonderful stripes

The crisp, worn cotton

I'm on a quest for more.

Why you ask?

Because I plan on making one of these lovely ruffly quilt.
It will be my winter project and my goal is to make one in a queen size for my bed.
(I know, tis a lofty goal!)

Isn't it delightful???!!!

I purchased the pattern on Etsy.  It's a pdf and very detailed and easy to follow.
Get yours here from Haworth Handmade.

What are your latest crafty/vintage obsessions??

PS for my local readers...have any of these - any size - you want to get rid of?
Email me: kwhitten at gmail dot com and let's make a deal.
The brighter, gaudier, and crazier looking the better!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME????

My blog and I just cannot come to terms lately!
I seem to have great intentions, but we all know what road we are on with that one.
:-\

Anyway, I hope to figure out a way to become motivated to blog more regularly,
but until then I hope you can sleep without thinking about it. he he

That necklace (previous post) has a story - and I am finally going to tell it!

It's some junk jewelry I made.

I've been seeing it - just as you have - everywhere on the web, etsy, and cute boutiques.

I do as all you crafty people do when you see something like that: "oh, I can totally make that!!"
Well, guess what?
I finally followed through!
(see, my intentions sometimes DO come through!)

I had a couple of non-real, short pearl necklaces.
Mind you, I'm not a pearl girl, but I had bought one to wear in a wedding and the other was from my granny's jewelry stash.

I just clasped them end to end.
Then to hide the clasp, I made a white crochet flower and shabbied it up with some tulle and a pearl button.
I absolutely love how it turned out!
(Alex has even worn it - so it passed the teenager test!)

I have a bag full of jewelry - broken, old and tossed aside - that my friend's mom gave me and I plan to put more of these together!

What crafty projects are you working on?
I'd love to see! :)

NSD hangover

National Scrapbooking Day wore me out - I think I have a scrap-hangover!

Full post later this week on my pages, but let me tell you there were some great challenges over at SIStv yesterday... really got the mojo working.

Here is a little sneak of my favorite thing of the day:

Jeanie chose brown for our color fun color this week
Get on over there and play!

more creating this weekend

I have just felt "it" this weekend.
What's "it" you ask?
The creating bug is what "it" is.
and let me tell you, "it" has felt good to create.
Again I used a lot of goodies from the Crazy Daisy Kit Co.

This first one was for a challenge over at The Creative Type.
The prompt: A picture is worth a thousand words. The idea is to get words on the photo.
I'm all the time taking pictures of the sky so I decided to use one for this prompt.
This is a 6x12 size.
Another one I whipped out this weekend was for the weekend shopping challenge over at SIStv. It starts with ten items and each person who participates chooses three items to use on a page then replaces those items with something new. I love doing these when I have a chance.
My three items:
  1. bird/birds
  2. orange paint
  3. two circles.
This is an 11x8.5
I love those little birds. They remind me of the Partridge Family! :D
They are Hambly.
We all know how I feel about Hambly!
Last but now least is one I whipped out rather quickly this afternoon.
This pretty much is all done with the Crazy Daisy Kit.
I am seriously in love with those orange Basic Grey letters!
(as you can tell - I've used them on most of my LO's.)
Anyway, I channeled my inner Debee Campos on this one with the spray paint drips!
That arrow thingie is really cool.
That is something new to me from Prima. It comes with a transparency sheet, the color design and the cardboard part has the shapes in cardboard and chipboard (more like the Tim Holtz grungeboard). I used thd chipboard as a mask. Also used some gesso...my new bff!

The photo is from New Years Eve/Alex's birthday.
The girls were singing and dancing the Bangles' 80 classic: Walk Like an Egyptian.
Another 6x12.
The Color Fun color this week is Gray.
I know, not so color fun, but I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone would do with it.
Here are a couple of mine from today:
Join in at any time! No strings attached!

I have some other pictures to share, but I'll spare you tonight o'blog'o'mine.
Peace out..

My Funky Sweet Win

I know I mentioned in a previous post about how extremely excited I was to win a little giveaway from Funky Finds. Guess what? I received my little giveaway in the mail yesterday and little it was not!!!! I knew I had won one of the monthly kits from Sweet Spuds AND I knew Sweet Spuds was a very popular monthly scrapbooking kit clubs that usually sells out because scrapbookers want their stuff, and now I know why!!!
Check it out:
This kit is like overflowing with great stuff. SERIOUSLY! Lots of great new Hambly, some of the new Sassafrass Lass papers, Holly McCaig's Pink Paislee, Cosmo Cricket stickers, and major coolness....woodgrain shelf paper!!!!

I'm not much on putting a bunch of advertising on a blog, but I am adding a Funky Finds banner to my blog and I want to encourage anyone who is looking for something unique in crafting, jewelry, for their pets, or other great little gift ideas, go check out Jessica's great blog- she really does come up with nifty, funky finds!

And any scrapbookers or interested in beginning to scrapbook???? Go seek out your own Sweet Spuds kit! A kit is an awesome way to get some materials to scrapbook because everything coordinates and it will go a long way. I think I had at least 14 full 12x12 pieces of patterned paper in this kit. Did I mention that when I went to the Sweet Spuds site I also found out that one of my favorite chicks was their guest designer??? no? Well, I'm mentioning it now...Ms. Kim Brimhall is just awesome! I mean, Hello...her name is Kim she has to be cool right? :) Check out her Sweet Spuds gallery and her beautiful blog.

Okay, well, I've rambled on long enough, but I was so tickled to get some happy mail...granted there were some bills in the mix, but this awesome box of scrappy goodness more than made up for it!

OH, I have to mention this wonderful piece of info:

I have been doing my daily blessing cards again, but have honestly not had the time to post this this week...I'll try to do that in the next few days, but I did want to add my June 12th DB card here, because it was a very special day of being blessed. Remember the Seven post from June 11th and the celebration of Joe's birthday? Well June 12, 2008 will be another birthday for Joe: the day he was born again in Christ Jesus! What a cool thing to happen the day after your seventh birthday, don't you think?

He will be baptized on Sunday. WOW, great things are happening all around and prayers are being answered.

Happy Saturday.

A day for craftiness

Today is that day! After icky, icy weather sent us home from work at 10AM, what is there left to do? DUH, scrapbook and catch up on some of my blog perusing for lovely inspiration and seeing some eye candy.

One project I have just come across on the SIStv boards is from fashionista Wilna who is offering some goodies for anyone who will be willing to make a card for her friend, Lois who has cancer. It warms my heart completely to know there are people all over the world who have such great friends. I know I do, but sometimes when we hear all the horrific news stories and bad stuff that happens everywhere we feel isolated. It is nice to be reminded that there are good people with big, kind, loving hearts who care about each other everywhere!!!

Anyway, I want to invite anyone who might read my little part of blog world to check out Wilna's blog for more info and to join in on helping to bring some happiness to this lady during such a sad time in her life. I mean, how much would it mean to you if you were diagnosed with such a horrible disease and your friend rallied people from all over the world to send you handmade cards filled with cheer! It gives me chills to think about it. Okay, I could go on & on...(I know, I already did!) but I'm gonna get to scrappin'.

Hope to be back on later with some new creations!

sidebar: oddly, I had never visited Wilna's blog and when I did I realized she has he{art} as her mantra similar to what I've done with my banner. Here is what she has stated: he{ART}: I am all in this one word. my heart is my art. my art is about my heart, my heart is my faith, and my love...and my life; my art is my process. like breathing. and rain. and tears. How cool is that??? I knew I liked her from SIS, but now this really seals it that I think Wilna ROCKS!!

stay tuned

Okay, so I'm way behind in my blogging efforts, but I have so much to blog about! Just cannot seem to find the time - why is that???

I did make a cool Etsy purchase (my first - how exciting!) I would love to set up my own etsy shop. Hope to get to that at some point. Anyway, I bought this sweet fabric which I want to craft into something really great from here. They were quick to respond and had a special offer going at the time. {anyone who knows me knows how I LOVE a deal!} Their shop is closed now, but I hope to order more yummy fabric from them.

More to come...stay tuned.

cool finds for sale

After some yard sale-ing this weekend, I made some cool finds that I have listed on eBay. I really thought about keeping these (and may if they don't sell!) and trying to use them for some kind of scrapbooking project. Here is the listing for more info -OR- if you want to make a bid ;)

I have also listed some cool old (1960s) knitting magazines. I absolutely dig all the colors and pictures in these. I don't knit - although I would like to learn sometime, but just don't need another hobby at this point!!! Anyway, I would say that the patterns and pictures of techniques in these books are top notch. I doubt the patterns you could pick up at your friendly "wally-world" would ever compare!

Go here for all my listings posted today.

I've been off work for a few days and did not do ONE scrapbook page! Hard to believe! I have however been crafty...sewing. I completed a project that I have wanted to do for a while now. This purse.
This was made from some vintage fabric found in a table runner at the Stock Exchange in Viola + an old raggedy shirt found tucked away at my house for the lining + an old Air Force belt {so I'm told by Rick} also from the Stock Exchange. The flower was made from the same found treasures + some red rick-rack + a huge button that I received in my Red Velvet kit in June. Yes, I am carrying this crazy looking bag.

Some like - some not so like. oh well, Vera Bradley had to start somewhere right??

creating and remembering

In the spirit of Memorial Day i have done a lot of reflecting this weekend. Along with the abundance of time I have spent at my little crafting table, and the barbeque slash graduation slash memorial day get together at slick rock, and the cookout at C&A's, I have enjoyed being able to reflect on my loved ones who have gone on. I am so thankful for each of them!
We had a tragedy in our community this weekend and that family who lost a child who is a year younger than Alex has been heavy on my heart and mind. I have prayed for comfort for them and feel really sad for them for losing a precious child.
On a brighter note, i have spent a lot of time creating and have thoroughly enjoyed it!!! These "whatnotclutches" as I have named them have been so much fun to make. I had brainstormed and sketched some ideas for bags and purses i have been wanting to make, but decided to use these leftover pieces of felt from a poster project of Alex's to craft these clutches. Not sure what I'm going to do with them. probably give them away - aren't they adorable though??? I've had more fun putting these quickies together.

I also finished Tiffany's grad gift and Leif's grad gift. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of Leif's before giving it. Here is the beginning stages of Tiffany's album. I originally thought this would be very "cowboyish" and western, and it does hint to that, I like how it is girly too. I hope she likes it.

Another fun project that had hit me one night quite some time ago, I decided to complete yesterday evening and am so excited in how it turned out. The idea was to make a little chipboard book for a bride to jot down her "bridal" memories. I wanted it to be very feminine and lacy. I'm thinking this one will go on eBay, but I'm not sure yet.

Here is a taste of this one.

Off to finish laundry and savor my last few hours of the long weekend. {maybe i'll even choose to get out of my p.j.s! ;) }
