thursday=friday

Since I'm on 10 hour days this summer, today is my Friday.
Can I get a "whoop-whoop"?!

It's been one of those weird short yet long weeks that is unexplainable.
I do know I am tired & look forward to sleeping in tomorrow and resting up.

We had a big on Tuesday, and I will post about that later, I first wanted to post a couple of my layouts from the June Crazy Daisy Kit.

Here is a little 12x12 with Lindsay doing Alex's hair for prom.
Love those exclusive cardboard monogram letters. I had used my "I" on another LO so I used the "L" and "O" from the Thickers to make this funky "I".

This next one is a wall hanging (my first) that I made using a technique I learned from the super talented Lucy Folch over at SIStv on National Scrapbooking Day.
Remember this one?
Same technique except I didn't use glimmer mist and I made little cut-outs for my chipboard using some of the patterned paper from the kit.

Check out the Crazy Daisy Kit blog to see all the eye candy from other design team members.

Speaking of design team members, I have subscribed to each of the DT's blogs and have been completely inspired by Grace Tolman's posts! She had a nifty little series the first week of June called "be creative". I encourage you to check her out...lovely photography too!

Okay I'll be back for a huge photo post of our fun day in Little Rock on Tuesday for Alex's Ambassador interview and Teen Star banquet for 4H! I'm so proud of her for being named State Ambassador...we just found out today.

Greatest Monday

Something lifted me today.
I know what or should I say Who it was.
My heart has been heavy lately.
I get this way during the dead of winter.
Then with all the ice, cold and craziness that came with it, I've just been in a funk.

After a wonderful Sunday school lesson yesterday about persistence in praying I felt the need to keep the lines of communication open today with God.
It worked people!
I had a great little talk with Him this morning on my way to work, and kept the conversation going all day.
What a novel idea! It's no big secret or new thing, it's just simple praying.
No fancy prayer language and no structure, just a talk with a best friend.

I was determined this day would be a great day:
That I would be productive.
That I would be a beacon of light to others.
That I would fight back ugly thoughts.
That I would think before speaking (okay so I failed on this one).
I think I will try this tomorrow.
If it works on Monday (typically a cruddy day), just think how great Tuesday will be!

Try it for yourself,
Sincere, persistent prayer.

The weather and sunshine also helped as a mood elevator today.
I've officially got it: Spring Fever!
Love looking forward to it - makes me somewhat giddy!

To top off the day I got this in the mail:

Ordered it from the SIS Boutique and am reveling in it's marvel!
The name of the kit is Winter Detox and let me tell you it definitely will make you forget the winter blahs!

Highly recommended!
And what a great way to top off an already good Monday.

Bring on Tuesday - I'm ready for it!

Better yet, why am I even reading this blog post...Kim has completely gone insane!!!" Then you continue your conversation: "However, I will admit it is a rather good looking bunch of stuff and I've been wanting to start scrapbooking. I mean, Kim loves it and makes it sound really fun & relaxing, maybe this would be a good way to get started." Or your conversation may go more like..."It is a cool looking kit and I bet Kim would love it if I purchased it for her. It really looks like something she would love, and it would make her like me even more if I just bought it for her and sent it to her 'just because!'" (okay, okay, I'm getting a little carried away - Just kidding on that last part...not the last part about buying me that great kit, but the last part about it making me like your more...I like you just fine!)

Green Project CATWALK

First, I must explain why I was so confused.... the show on Bravo hosted by Heidi Klum that is all the rage is Project Runway.

The challenge on SIStv is Project Catwalk.
Now, since I love fashion design and at one time
was majoring in it, I decided I would check this show out on You Tube. Well, I spent most of Saturday evening watching not only the first two episodes from the new season, but I went back and watched the entire Season 4.

I'm HOOKED people!
I mean it is FIERCE!

Okay, get it now?
Project Runway is the reality show on Bravo,
I'll refer to it hereinafter as PR.

Project Catwalk is the scrappy challenge
on SIStv. I'll refer to is hereinafter as PC.

See how I'm throwing all that legal talk in there.
You can tell I worked for an attorney once upon a time, can't ya?

In the second week of PR the designers had to use "green" materials for their garments. "Green" as in environmentally friendly. The challenge on PC was to create a card primarily using the color green. The card could be for any occasion and any size.
The catch: use the outer clear cellophane
packaging from an item like stickers or Thickers or any of the clear outer packaging. Also use a piece of newspaper to create a matching envelope for the card! Here is my Week #2:
It more or less says "Hello...
Funny Face.
This is just a spot for a personal message
on the inside left.
I just like this little guy:

this week is the Sharp County Fair and it will be super duper busy, I hope to have some time somewhere to post my updated DB's. I know I promised! I also have some new photos to share when I get them off my camera!

goodnight johnboy!

Project Catwalk Runway

ETA: That's how much I know about the show+how tired I was when posting. I typed Project Catwalk in stead of Project Runway. What a complete dork I feel like!

okay, so I've never seen the show, but hear great and wonderful things about it. I found the link after typing the correct name, it is on Bravo.

There is a major scrappy challenge going on over at SIStv based on the show.
Lots of creative thinking to work the brain!

I didn't get the first week done, but there was some darn good entries. I was so proud of Christina for winning the first place for the week! Love the Droid!

I am happy to say I did get this week's done! Yay Me!!! *flashing applause sign now*
I cannot post it yet, but I will after the deadline.
It is a card and here is the challenge from the board:

Create a card primarily using the color green. The card can be for any occasion and any size. Here's the catch, to make your card you must use the outer clear celophane packaging from an item like Thickers (you can use any of the clear outer packaging you have on hand). Also you must use a piece of newspaper to create a matching envelope for the card!

Don't forget the bonus item this week!!!!! It's the turquoise felt yard from the Beach Bum collection! (I'm out on this one, I don't have the collection.) :(

There is a bonus this week if we recruit new people.
Okay, so I know Amy is not going to do this and probably not Joyce, Kathi or Mom.
If there are any others who read my blog that would like to do this - please leave a comment and I'll give you the details the deadline is Saturday night at 10P central time. (I think)

I also did my LO for the The Art is Found prompt.
Notebook paper.
I'm loving the way this turned out.
let me just say: artist=child

I'll be posting these tomorrow with my DB's in massive quantity.

I've been so darn lazy on these this week.

over & out

7.19.2008

bad blogger - I know

I have been MIA on here most of the week.
I really can't 'splain why, but I wanted to put a little
something on here.

First my 6 Random things...
I was tagged by Lynne for 6 random things last week.

Here are the rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
5. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
6. Let your tagger know when your blog entry is up.

okay on to my randoms:
1. When waiting for pages to load online, I cannot keep my pointer still.
It's a nervous, impatient habit and I suppose I think it will make the world wide web
go faster.

2. I have never been out of the country.

3. I don't eat ketchup because when I was a little girl another kid told me it was made out of blood - yes, I realize NOW that is not true, but I still won't eat it, even though I love tomatoes and any other tomato product.

4. I love to dance - any kind dancing - but don't ever get the chance anymore.

5. I have never made a pie.

6. I have a great sense of direction and can usually get around in a new place and I love maps.

I guess another random is I don't always follow the rules so I am disregarding rule 4 & 5 of this post. Instead if you DO read my blog and want to post your six random things on your blog OR as a comment if you don't have a blog - DO IT and let me know.

I did some scrapping and am doing some of the challenges this weekend over at SIStv in honor of CHA. I will post some scrappiness later.

Off to shower and face the heat!

I scrapped!

Yea for ME! I decided I needed a little help so I went to the Color Combo challenge site and cranked out this layout of one of Alex's prom pics.

I also finished part of the SIStv March Style Phyle - "Go Green" that I've been wanting to do. I plan to send this cute "think green" bag to Brooke. She is very conscientious about recycling and not using the plastic shopping bags when grocery shopping, so I thought she would appreciate it.

I also did a couple more of the challenges from Elsie's 52 Week Challenge. I'm not completely caught up, but I'm closer.

This one is Week 11, SCRAPLIFT A COLOR COMBINATION

Here is the description from the site:
I loved the blues, browns and oranges on Mellette's layout, so I decided to scraplift her color combination for my pages at the right. For this challenge, you can scraplift me or Mellette - or open up this book to any page and challenge yourself to scraplift the color scheme!Ok since everyone doesn't have the book, I'm gonna say that you should scraplift from any place that you want. A magazine, SIS, a challenge blog, whatever. Just scraplift a color combo from any layout that you like!Have fun!

I lifted the color from this ad. I loved the purple and green together.

I also did this one for week 13 - SCRAPLIFT A LAYOUT SHAPE, here is the description:

Danielle wanted this sun-shaped page to have an artsy, vibrant, funky feel to it. I love the high energy of her layout and decided to scraplift it. My layout isn't an exact sun shape, but look how I've started with a circle shape and then added ribbons and different patterns around the perimeter of my circle. For this challenge, look for a layout with a shap you love and challenge yourself to scraplift it.I realize that you can't see what she's talking about without the photos but I am including all of the prompts so you can get more of an idea. Have fun! GO!

I used a snowflake for my shape. Yes, it is a little lame-o, but I got it done and I love that picture of Alex from our big snow awhile back.

Wow! I did get something accomplished!

I also took several pictures today of the dogwoods that are in full bloom right now. My absolute favorites trees in the world. More later.

Scrapjacked - Amy Lapi

Okay, I have not done the Scrapjacked challenge in AGES! This one was a good one and I had to do it.
I took this picture of Hadley and Kyle on February 23rd on our family bowling trip for Hadley's birthday.
We had a blast and I took lots of pictures (as usual). I love this one of my little brothers. They are each so different and unique and I'm proud of both of them.
I used some of my SIStv Boutique Style Phyle from February called Kitschy Kitschy Koo. It's a new fun & funky monthly kit that I signed up for. It has odds and ends - a lot of vintage-y stuff (like this smiley face playing card) and the ultra cool houndstooth gaffer tape. I cannot stress how much I love the Boutique and their wonderful customer service.

Card for Lois

If you read a post or two below, you will know about the handmade cards for Lois, a lady in Canada (I think) who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Her friend, Wilna has challenged scrapbookers and others to create a card for Lois and send it to her. Her goal is for Lois to get 100 cards by March 20th.

I believe she will!!!!!
Here is the card I made:
The scripture inside reads "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." Mark 11:24.
I used some scrap yellow cardstock and other pp (patterned paper) for the design on front. Scenic Route black letter stickers (these are my favorites). Inside, a piece of notepad paper, attached with the best stuff ever! Gaffer's tape I received from my Kitschy kitschy koo kit from SIStv Boutique yesterday. Perfect USPS timing, don't you think? I wrote everything else and used colored pencils for a little splash of color!.

A day for craftiness

Today is that day! After icky, icy weather sent us home from work at 10AM, what is there left to do? DUH, scrapbook and catch up on some of my blog perusing for lovely inspiration and seeing some eye candy.

One project I have just come across on the SIStv boards is from fashionista Wilna who is offering some goodies for anyone who will be willing to make a card for her friend, Lois who has cancer. It warms my heart completely to know there are people all over the world who have such great friends. I know I do, but sometimes when we hear all the horrific news stories and bad stuff that happens everywhere we feel isolated. It is nice to be reminded that there are good people with big, kind, loving hearts who care about each other everywhere!!!

Anyway, I want to invite anyone who might read my little part of blog world to check out Wilna's blog for more info and to join in on helping to bring some happiness to this lady during such a sad time in her life. I mean, how much would it mean to you if you were diagnosed with such a horrible disease and your friend rallied people from all over the world to send you handmade cards filled with cheer! It gives me chills to think about it. Okay, I could go on & on...(I know, I already did!) but I'm gonna get to scrappin'.

Hope to be back on later with some new creations!

sidebar: oddly, I had never visited Wilna's blog and when I did I realized she has he{art} as her mantra similar to what I've done with my banner. Here is what she has stated: he{ART}: I am all in this one word. my heart is my art. my art is about my heart, my heart is my faith, and my love...and my life; my art is my process. like breathing. and rain. and tears. How cool is that??? I knew I liked her from SIS, but now this really seals it that I think Wilna ROCKS!!

Gotta update and get back on track

I know there have been friends and family and friends and family of friends and family checking out the storm pictures, so I have not been posting new art stuff on here for the past week and a half.

I think it's time to update now.

Neighbors, friends and others in my community are cleaning, piling, and rebuilding. Spirits are good and this whole tragedy has once again validated to me why I do love living where I live. People are just willing to lend a hand, pitch in, give money and time to help their community. It is so awesome and makes me so proud and feel so fortunate and blessed to live in the rural South.

A couple of positive updates on the storm...Highland's KFC/Taco Bell has windows! Wooo-hooo. The Highland Hills Baptist Chuch (the one that lost the steeple and still had the crystal chandelier hanging) already has a new front. I suppose their church members are working like mad to rebuild. Thumbs up and kudos for that! One family I know already has started to rebuild. Seriously, it is amazing how quickly most people are getting back to rebuilding their lives. Keep praying people!

I'll be putting my daily blessing up this weekend, but for now, I wanted to post a layout i did last weekend from a SIStv challenge to use this Target ad for inspo. I actually like the way it turned out! Note the sweet Hambly overlay...I seriously love this stuff and hope to get my hands on some of the new stuff just released. If anyone has a Hambly connection...hook a sister up, would ya!?

To all of those who have checked out my blog for storm pics, I say thanks and feel free to keep checking out my other stuff from time-to-time.

2 of clubs - I was blessed to receive some happy mail from a friend from SIStv, Diana. She sent me some cute little bling embellies, including these awesome flowers; and some jumbo playing cards; as well as the best lip stuff evah: Lip Medex. What a sweet person she is. Amazing how someone you have never met in person can be such a blessing! I am also her T2T person this month, so I'm excited to get my box from her.

used: kraft paper, color pencils, black ink edges, black pen, and embellies.

It ain't easy bein' green

that is my color in the ATC color swap I signed up for and I had fun making all 17 of those little green machines! I cannot wait to get all the colors back and look at everyone elses handiwork on these. This is the first swap like this I have done, so I hope my work halfway holds a candle to the others.

Here is the entire pile of cards. I am pretty happy with the way they turned out actually. My next endeavor is the ATC alphabet swap. My letter: Q. I am also doing a bible verse ATC swap. I am really looking forward to it. Which reminds me...

I have another goal for the new year: reading through the entire bible. My friend Suellen is also doing this and she had one of the bibles set up to read by date. She let me borrow it to bring home over the weekend to catch up. Then I will be following along on through Bible Study Tools (BST) which I found through an online ad on one of my emailed devotionals. I am really excited about tackling this and really think it will be something good to do at this phase of my life. I am going to read the New Living Translation because I can follow it pretty well and understand it.
Happy Weekend!

7 of clubs- "Good Times". I am really trying to stay positive on this, the first day back to work after the 2 week Christmas holiday!
using teal cardstock with a card stock sticker from Alohi in the T2T swap on SIS.

11.02.2007

yes, I did scrapbook tonight

major +wow+ i know!

I did the Category Stories KC challenge. First time I've ever done that one and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I love their concept of drawing a random winner instead of choosing a favorite. Kind of gives everyone a chance just for doing their challenge. I used the tree photo that I have previously posted a picture of on this blog somewhere below lost in blogginess blogland, along with some masking tape for my journaling.

The other is for one of the Week 5 fashionista challenges over there at Scrap in Style. Specifically, Becca Sutton's challenge of using something you are "saving" for a special LO. I am so bad to do that! I've had this little transparency forEva - why? What in the world am I saving it for? Button? Yes, I have a ton of them, so why not use them? This pink lace and even this paper. So silly to save stuff. Love this pic of Alex - it is also somewhere below in this blog.
I've just gotta start scrapping more, makes me feel so much better! ;D

new quick layout

Love, LUB this new widget! This was for a week one challenge on SIStv, although I'm a day late with it. I don't care, this challenge was to use some of the stacks of leftover paper strips which I had plenty of - gotta love a good challenge!!!

10.04.2007

blessing

This word is so how I feel about so many people in my life. From family to friends to many in between - I am blessed all the way around. This is a little random painting I did on some packing material given to me by one of those blessings - my friend, Laura. I am now giving it back to her.

I want to begin a sort of "daily something" like Ali had started awhile back and I was doing for awhile but quit - just like my workouts! :( Anyway, I saw a post on SIStv about doing the little daily cards. I love elise blaha's dailies. Only I want to modify it as a daily blessing or something I'm thankful for. I simply want to be more aware of the small things in life that I forget to thank God for.

LUB SIStv

This ---------> {click here to go to the ultra groovy site} is about the greatest website for inspiration and just all around cool chicks (and I think there are a few dudes on there too!) I've found.

If you have not checked out SIStv, go now! Do not pass go, do not collect $200, just go. You must also check this -------------------> {SIS Boutique} out. Just launched today! Talk about some eYe CanDy! Whoa.

On a sadder note, a member of our family has left us today...Amy's old horse - Jet passed away today and we are all very sad about it. We knew it was going to happen as he was old and not looking real great, but it is never easy to let a part of your family go whether person, dog, cat, bird or horse. He was a fantastic horse who taught a lot of kids and adults how to ride and rope. He will be missed and always have a place in our hearts and pasture! :)
